ACADEMY OF CLASSICAL ANTIQUITY - SORRENTO, ITALY

Environments for edification are elevated when designed with a harmony of arrangement between nature and the man-made. The entire design, from the grove to the classroom, should be one that provides nourishment to the intellect and the soul. The aim of this project was that the gardens respond to the buildings while the buildings harmoniously become an extension of the garden. Through layers of terracing one passes first through the citrus grove, then through the permeable court of the academy, down further to the formal gardens which end with the views to Mt. Vesuvius across the bay.
